Optional bundle layer that adds the Design Mode Host service and browser surface to the standard DSH Web application. It is used by the built-in design profile and does not alter the default web profile.

Source-checkout installation

Build the fork, install the isolated profile manifest, and start it explicitly:

pnpm run build
pnpm run design:install
pnpm run design:start --no-open

Use pnpm run design:status to inspect the managed profile, pnpm run design:upgrade after rebuilding a newer fork, and pnpm run design:uninstall to remove the profile entry. design:start launches this source checkout with the Node internal flag required by the development HMR plugin; a packaged custom DSH can instead run dsh --profile design. Uninstall moves the profile to a timestamped recoverable backup and does not delete workspace .dsh/design-mode data. Development commands never replace another installed DSH executable or its default profile.

Open Settings → Design Mode to write OPENAI_API_KEY and FAL_KEY into the credential vault. The settings surface is write-only for secret values. The profile is usable without provider keys for local canvas, comments, context, and persistence; provider jobs report a recoverable credential error until the relevant key exists.

Composition

The bundle patch mounts only @deepseek-ai/dsh-design-mode and @deepseek-ai/dsh-client-ui-design-mode. The profile composes base, web-app, and this layer in that order. No Design row is added to the ordinary Web profile.

What the model sees

Mounting the design profile registers four Design tools. Canvas state is still invisible until a tool reads it or the user submits visible context chips.

Token effect

The bundle itself adds no prompt text. Tool calls, tool results, and submitted Design context account for their own tokens.

KV Cache effect

Merely installing or opening the profile has no cache effect. A Design tool call or submitted context changes the corresponding turn payload.

Known Limitations and Deferred Work

• The helper manages a source-build design profile; producing signed platform installers remains a release-pipeline concern.
• Real OpenAI/FAL verification is intentionally not run without keys entered by the user.
• The v1 bundle is image-only and contains no video capability.
