The bytes are decoded in the page: WAV and AIFF/AIFC by a hand-written decoder that streams the file in windows through the harness's own workspaceFiles remote (so a file far past the 32 MiB single-read cap still draws), FLAC by the browser's own decoder. The zoom moves the LAYOUT - the scrollable width is the file's real duration times the zoom - and the waveform is painted by a viewport-anchored canvas, so a zoomed waveform stays scrollable to its edge and panning is the pane's own scrollLeft. A `fmt ` chunk whose block align is narrower than one frame is refused BY NAME rather than decoding samples read from the wrong place, a zero-size chunk is stepped over instead of letting it end the RIFF/IFF walk, and a header the file simply ENDS inside is answered with the parser's own verdict rather than with the 8 MiB ceiling sentence.
